Wrist Pain

Causes

Wrist pain can be caused by injuries, overuse, or conditions like arthritis. Common causes include carpal tunnel syndrome (pressure on a nerve), tendonitis (inflammation from repetitive use), and sprains or strains from twisting or trauma. Osteoarthritis can cause stiffness and pain, and ganglion cysts (fluid-filled lumps) may also cause discomfort. Fractures, infections, and other conditions like rheumatoid arthritis can contribute to wrist pain. Proper diagnosis is key to treatment.

What can I do for you?

1. Assess the issue 2. Advise re treatment options 3. Reduce Tension in the area 4. Improve flexibility 5. Build strength

What can you do at home?

  • Rest: Avoid activities that stress or strain the wrist to allow it to heal.
  • Ice: Apply an ice pack for 15-20 minutes several times a day to reduce swelling and inflammation.
  • Heat: Use a warm compress or heating pad to relax muscles and improve circulation, especially after the first few days.
  • Gentle Stretching: Do light wrist stretches to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness.
  • Wrist Support: Wear a wrist brace or splint to provide support and reduce strain on the joint.
  • Elevate: If there is swelling, keep the wrist elevated to help reduce it.
  • Ergonomic Adjustments: If repetitive use is the cause, make sure your workstation or activities are ergonomically friendly to reduce strain.
